Theory of Creationism is a religious belief that states that life, earth and the universe are all created by the Abrahamic God. The term “creationism” is often associated with Christian fundamentalist disbelief in human evolution. However this theory is often contested by other groups like theistic evolutionists, who believe in various concepts of creation.

The theory of creationism often creates conflicts between various religion and sect having their own beliefs of creationism. Some of the basic principles of creationism are beyond the perception of man or the scientific principles. Mostly this theory is based on religious explanation of events, which cannot be proven scientifically and lacks logical merit.

Scientific creationism in reality is not rooted in Genesis or in fact any other religious teaching. One can list out the scientific evidences for creation without biblical references or religious quotes.

There are many books on scientific creationism that have not used any biblical quotes or religious doctrines to prove the origin of life on earth. These arguments are mostly based on various scientific principles like genetics, thermodynamics, paleontology and other branches of science. Creation is explained scientifically on the context of DNA, mutations, fossils and other concepts, which are not in Bible. Creation science opposes the Big Bang theory of evolution and is more of a religious principle rather than a scientific theory.

However, these days many people are taking up the cause of Creationism and they have their own points to support their stand. They opine that much of the complexity of life can only be explained by Perfectionism and not by evolution. Many scientists and biochemists like Dr. Michael Behe have always been skeptical regarding the theories of evolution, on which there is serious disagreement within the scientific community itself.
They share the view that evolution that could be accepted by the scientific community at present could well be shunned in future. The complexity of life is best explained by Creationism whereas there are many flaws in the theory of evolution, which makes Creationism better than or at par with many a scientific theory.

Creationism can be defined as a scientific hypothesis of the origin of life that contradicts the naturalist theories of abiogenesis and evolution. Abiogenesis describes the development of life from nonliving materials while the theory of evolution believes that life evolved through a gradual process of mutation and natural selection. In both these cases, the experiments conducted so far have failed to prove the points substantially leaving ample room for doubt and scope for debate among biochemists. No experiment has proved evolution could be the sole deciding factor for explaining such a huge diversity among the living organisms in the world. Creationism has been successful in explaining points that abiogenesis and evolution could not. Creationism says that the diversity of life and its origin are creations of an intelligent agency, which is a scientific observation rather than a religious belief.

Creationism is something that is certain and unchangeable. Though there have been a lot of differences in the method of interpretation, the basic fact remains that the world order follows a definite patterns in its origin and development over the centuries, which the theory of evolution has not been able to prove and substantiate to the satisfaction of every one in the society.

Creationism believes that there is a creator for everything and this can be used effectively to plug the loopholes in the theory of evolution so there is a possibility of more research in this direction to solve the enigma behind the evolution of the world, which has been the topic of discussion, debate and fantasy for many years now.

The Theory of Creationism

Creationism is a general term used to describe the theory of how the world came into being. The theory of creationism states that the world was created approximately 10,000 years ago. The creationists believe that the bible and specifically the book of Genesis, gives a literal account of how the world was created. The belief that the earth is 10,000 years old was arrived at by summing up all the chronological events that have been mentioned in the bible. This theory is shared between Christians and Jews and to some extent Muslims.

Strictly speaking, creationism describes two main theories; Old earth creation theory and the young earth creationism theory. The young earth creationism theory makes a literal interpretation of the bible and concludes that the earth was created 10,000 years ago. The old earth creationism theory does not commit to a literal interpretation of the bible and is more receptive to certain ideas and theories of evolution. The latter has been accepted by a smaller section of Christians mainly liberal Christians.

In ordinary language and in popular culture, when people talk about creationism, they are referring to the young earth theory. Creationists usually limit the story of creation of the earth to the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis. The first 11 chapters narrate five major events that took place when the earth began. These are; the six days of creation, the floods of Noah that wiped out most of the animals and plants on earth, the building of the tower of Babel which led to the dispersion of people and the creation of many languages after the tower was destroyed.

There has been a lot of debate concerning the theory of the origin of earth since the turn of the century. The debate has mainly been between creationists and scientists who support the theory of evolution. Even though creationism is considered to be a science by its proponents, scientists have refused to accept it into mainstream science. Many scientists believe that the young creationism theory is purely a religious belief and does not employ scientific methods to support its claims.

Since the creationism theory has been defined by the debate between creationism and Darwinian evolution, evidence supporting evolution is considered to be proof that the creationism theory is false. For example, laboratory tests have shown that micro-organism adapt to their environment through mutation, and develop resistance to pesticides through successive generations. Scientists have also pointed to the fact that fossils of the dinosaurs cannot be accounted for by the biblical narrative.

Creationists in their defense have pointed to the fact that the theory of evolution is un-falsifiable. This means that the theory is designed in such a way that any new scientific discovery about species will fit into this theory. They also point out that the theory of evolution is a collection of many theories and scientists are not always committed to the main theory i.e. the theory of natural selection. Scientists tend to move from Neo-Darwinian, Darwinian and even Lamarck’s transmutation theory, when explaining certain aspects of evolution. Maybe in future there will be some consensus between these groups about how the universe began.

Scientific and Undisputed Evolution Proof

Evolution proof has been established scientifically, which has discredited the theories of Creationism. This is based on hard scientific evidence and not an outcome of some belief system. The theory of evolution maintains that life existed many million years in the past and has evolved through time. Scientists may argue over evolutionary details, however, they all agree that life has a very long history on our planet, and for the past two hundred years, irrefutable evidence has been gathered to support this fact.

The first basis of evolutionary proof was provided when humankind started unearthing fossils. These fossils provide snapshots into the distant past, of life on our planet. When one assembles these huge range of fossils found across the globe, it provides a panoramic view of the evolutionary changes that have taken place in the past, over more than three billion years. This evidence clearly demonstrates the evolutionary changes in various life forms over the centuries. If you investigate the fossilized remains of dinosaurs, it shows how each species evolved, and the way they became extinct. It also shows how drastic changes can take place in various bodies to adapt to the changing environment on earth.

Evolutionary proof has also given rise to the theory of homologies, where similarities are shared by related organisms, which are having common ancestors. Homologies are revealed by analyzing the anatomy of various life forms, and studying differences and similarities at the cellular level. By studying homologies, the ancestry of various life forms is revealed. For instance, lizards, rabbits, birds, and frogs may have different types of forelimbs, but the bones making up these limbs are the same, which are the ulna, radius, and humerus. This same boneset is also found in fossils of Eusthenopteron, which is an extinct animal. This proves, all the above named creatures had a common ancestry, and have evolved into their present forms.

Even though, studying past history of life forms has provided ample proof of evolution, one can still gather the same evidence by studying present life forms. Studies conducted on artificial selection in laboratories have revealed a model similar to natural selection. These experiments have clearly demonstrated, how environmental changes can affect survival, and the way organisms have a tendency to adapt to these changes. This means we can effectively display the evolutionary process in a lab for particular living organisms.

Studying life and trying to find its origin is an intriguing topic that has baffled humankind from the beginning. However, now we have enough scientific proof to back the theory of evolution, compared to other theories that have no scientific backing and rely mainly on scriptures. There might still be some missing links in the evolutionary theory that can conclusively prove human evolution to its present form, but that does not mean the theory is wrong. Creationists believe that humans, as we know them today suddenly came into existence, about 10,000 years back. This is quite absurd, as fossils and other evolution proof, suggests otherwise.

Four Arguments That Back Up Darwin’s Theory of Evolution

Charles Robert Darwin is a naturalist who is best known for his theory of evolution by natural selection. In his book titled “On the Origin of Species,” Darwin suggested that all life species evolved from common ancestors. According to him, natural selection occurs when the strongest species survive, propagate and increases it strength. In his book, he wrote several points of evidence to support the validity of his theory.

Anatomy

Darwin noted that the anatomy of humans and creatures like whales and bats are noticeably similar particularly the limbs. This is despite the forelimbs utilized for various purposes. According to Darwin, similar forelimbs have the same origins and that this is still apparent in modern day forms. He added that various modifications are adaptations to the special requirements of contemporary organisms. He also noted that animals have body parts that are not utilized, and these structures degenerate and shrink in size. In humans, some of the undersized and underutilized structures include the wisdom teeth, fused tail vertebrae, appendix and muscles around the nose and ears. He said some of these structures may have been used in the past by human ancestors, like the appendix for digesting certain foods and the coccyx located at the end of the vertebrae column may have been what is left of a tail previously possessed by human ancestors.

Development of Embryos

Darwin also observed the similarity of embryos of humans and complex animals like fish, reptiles, chickens and frogs. According to him, uniformity of embryos suggests the validity of his theory. He noted that the human embryos go through several embryonic stages since they inherited the mechanisms from a common ancestor. The mechanisms are changed according to the way of life of the organism. Likewise, embryos of humans and animals are strikingly similar to those of animals like fish, bird and rabbit particularly in the early stages. Embryos all have gill slits, a heart with two chambers and a tail with muscles. But the embryos become less similar as they grow and develop.

Biochemistry

While biochemistry was not yet a major study during his time, today’s findings show there is a similarity in the biochemistry of all living things. For instance, mechanisms for capturing and unleashing of energy are almost the same in all living systems. Likewise, DNA and RNA are almost the same in all living organisms. Genetic code structure is also almost identical in all living systems.

Geographical Distribution

Darwin was just 20 when he sailed to the Galapagos Island. He observed that some bird and animal species were found only on the island. He was particularly curious with the finches since he observed that 13 finch species were not found in other parts of the world. He concluded that the finches evolved from just one ancestor that may have reached the islands many years earlier. As Galapagos island is isolated, the original finch had evolved into 13 other species. Evolution is also presented by geographic distributions, like alligators in Australia and New Zealand that are found nowhere else in the world due to the isolated environments of the said countries.
